Jacksonville Animal Care and Control has many animals waiting for a chance at a new home. The Holiday Short Story Collection
by Thoughts from the Pond is a set of nine heart-warming original short stories including four award winners by RL Williams of Jacksonville, Florida. The holiday themes capture the true spirit of the holiday season through nine different slices of life.

Four of the stories,
Snowflake, The Christmas Duck, War Takes a Holiday, and The Snowman Contest include the plight of an animal in the plot.

The book is dedicated to all the lost and homeless animals, past and present.

Fire At Jacksonville Humane Society
April 7, 2007 - Jacksonville Florida

An early Saturday morning fire has destroyed a large portion of the local Humane Society in Jacksonville Florida. As of Sunday evening (April 8th) 71 cats and 24 dogs were reported as killed in the fire. The estimated loss to property is about $1 million dollars. The Jacksonville Humane Society's Thrift Store which is located on an adjacent property was not damaged.

Donations to help the needs of the shelter are welcome and may be made to any Wachovia Bank. Reference account number 2000034081857 and the Jacksonville Humane Society Fire Rescue Account. Donations may also be dropped off at the Jacksonville Humane Society Thrift Store located at 8328 Beach Blvd. Also, donations may be made through the Humane Society's web site at:

The Maltese in a Box

This Maltese mix was brought in to Jacksonville Animal Care and Control on 4/17/2006. He has been diagnosed with some medical issues and I have just received word that he is now at the Jacksonville Humane Society. I am hoping he is on the way to recovery and will find a new home soon.
