April 7, 2007 - Jacksonville Florida An early Saturday morning fire has destroyed a large portion of the local Humane Society in Jacksonville Florida. As of Sunday evening (April 8th) 71 cats and 24 dogs were reported as killed in the fire. The estimated loss to property is about $1 million dollars. The Jacksonville Humane Society's Thrift Store which is located on an adjacent property was not damaged. Donations to help the needs of the shelter are welcome and may be made to any Wachovia Bank.
